Hi everyone, my name is Yan Ding. I will be your teacher this year.  Welcome to the class!

I am sure all of you had a great summer, but time goes too fast and believe it or not we are back to school again.  I would like to take this opportunity to tell you something about myself.

I came to United States of America from People’s Republic of China in 1992. After I graduated from University of Detroit, Mercy with a Master of Science, I moved to Illinois. Right now I work for Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization in Mt. Prospect. I work at our Technology Department and occasionally I travel to some of our schools to teach reading to kids of special needs with the help of specially designed software. I’ve enjoyed teaching because I learn a lot from teaching. Actually I had taught English in Zhejiang Teacher’s University from 1984 to 1991 in the Department of Foreign Languages after I got my Bachelor of Arts. I always wanted to go back teaching again. I feel so grateful that Ray Chinese School offered me this chance to be with you this year learning Chinese together.

I believe motivation, encouragement and hard work are very important for all language learners. In my class, you will have an environment where you will be exposed to some common Chinese daily greetings and simple conversations. You will be encouraged to practice your listening skills and daily communication skills. You will learn new words, phrases, and sentence patterns through various activities and games. You can also request to have anything in the textbook to be recorded on your tape recorder. You will learn a lot. I am sure we will have a great year together. I look forward to meeting all of you!
